St. Dominic Church and School, located in the heart of Lakeview, a residential neighborhood in New Orleans, has been the anchor of worship and family values for many generations. Our community has served as a role model in the Archdiocese of New Orleans through Family Life programming, 24-hour Eucharist Adoration, Pre-Cana marriage preparation, CYO development, a Blue Ribbon Nationally Recognized School of Academic Excellence, community service, and reaching out to those in need of assistance anywhere in the world.
However, in late August 2005, this spiritual and family-oriented parish was virtually annihilated by the worst natural disaster in our nation’s history. Both Hurricane Katrina and the failure of the 17th Street Canal levee, located just blocks from St. Dominic Church and School, dealt crushing blows to the church, the school and the community. Words fail to describe adequately the devastating effects caused by the inundation of our area of more than ten feet of water that remained in the homes and parish and school buildings for nearly three weeks.
There has never been a more important time to serve your fellow man than now. We need your immediate help to recover, rebuild, and restore our parish, to bring our families home, and to bring our children back to their neighborhood, their church and their school. This task cannot possibly be accomplished without the assistance of many. Please help us to bring laughter back to the school yard, learning back to the classrooms, and the joyful noise of a loving community back to our church enabling us to celebrate God’s sacraments together again in our spiritual home.
